Tell us a little about yourself..

Hi I’m Matthew Langford and I was a High School teacher for almost 20 years. In 2017 I started a business called Australian Freshwater Fishing Charters. I have 3 kids and have been happily married to Annette Langford for almost 10 years.

Based out of Kingaroy in Queensland I am the owner and operator of Australian Freshwater Fishing Charters. Created in 2017, following a recognised need for a qualified freshwater fishing guides in Australia. My sole aim is to help the everyday angler better understand how to locate, observe and catch freshwater fish. Charters are carried out on the best lakes and rivers in Queensland and New South Wales, targeting Australian Bass, Yellowbelly, Saratoga, Barramundi and Murry Cod.

Freshwater fishing charters are catered to the clients needs, whether it's a half or full day experience on their favourite lake, or multiple days fishing a location for a number of different species.

I was originally from St George in South west QLD and grew up in the bush hunting and fishing with my family. Now I still do the same with my kids and my wife.

How did your fishing journey begin?

I have been fishing with my dad since I was 2 years old. Dad would take me to the river with a life jacket on and walk the banks fishing for yellow belly and Murray Cod. Over the years my fishing passion grew to lure fishing and targeting other species like Barramundi and Australian Bass. Australian bass was a real passion as I loved how they’d changed their habits from season to season and eat a large variety of lures year round.

What does representing Australia mean to you?

Representing Australia is the pinnacle of tournament fishing in my eyes. It’s the highest level there is and I’m fishing with 5 other anglers that are the best in the country along side me. I have full faith in my team members and know that we’re capable of winning a world championship. I’m proud to be part of team Australia and give it everything I have when we’re out competing against the best bass anglers in the world.

What achievement in fishing are you most proud of?

I’m proud of the hard work that I have put in to be one of the most consistent Australian Bass angler for years now. My guiding and regular tournaments help me achieve this. 5 AOY titles is my proudest accomplishment

What are you most looking forward to about competing in the USA?

I’m looking forward to fishing with my teammates to be the world champions. I believe we are the best team in the world and can win! I also love competing against the world's best and making them take notice of Australian anglers. If we can inspire other young Australian anglers to do something like us. That’s a win for us too.

Favourite Fishing Destination in the World - Lake Bolsena Italy was probably my most favourite fishing location as well as Lake Andong in South Korea.

Bucket List Fish - A giant Tarpon or Nile Perch

Favourite Fishing Snack - Salami sticks or Jerky

Dream Fishing Partner (Living or Past) - Mitch Cone (our team Vice cap and historical World Championship partner.
